Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, located in the mainland of Croatia in the picturesque place of the Sava River valley and Medvednica Mountain from the northern part of the city and 150 km from the Adriatic.

Zagreb is not inferior to other more famous European cities, in cozy atmosphere, interesting architecture, delicious and inexpensive local cuisine, the total number of attractions and that special color prevailing here.

Zagreb is often called the “Croatian Vienna”.

We are exploring the two parts of the city that make up the modern center of Zagreb - this is Kaptol - with the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of St. Mary, restored after a strong earthquake in the late 19th century in the neo-Gothic style, shrouded in stone lace.

Then, through the “stomach” of the city – Dolac Market, we move to the Upper Town, the former city of Hradec, with well-preserved medieval architecture, where now there is the Parliament of Croatia, the Church of St. Mark, on the roof of which are colored tiles of the coat of arms of Zagreb and the triune kingdom of Croatia and the observation tower of Lotrščák with a functioning gun, shooting every afternoon, all sorts of observation platforms, museums and galleries.

In this most beautiful and interesting place in Zagreb you can spend at least a whole day.

Then on the smallest funicular in the world, we go down to the “Lower Town” – Ilitsa Street – a pedestrian zone of the city, where there are a lot of specialized shops with all sorts of things, for every taste and wallet, as well as a lot of boutiques and brand stores, where there are few buyers and very friendly sellers.

Lots of discounts, sales and "special" offers. So it makes sense to wander on Ilitsa Street in the evening, if not buy, then at least look at it.

There are also many restaurants and cafes – coffee is not just a drink – it is a tradition of communicating with friends over a cup of coffee. After a short rest over a cup of fragrant coffee, the smell of which is impregnated with the so-called "spitz squash" - the meeting place of the city's citizens, we can continue our walk along the "green horseshoe" of the city - Zrinevac Park, and the surrounding squares.

In the lower town, the main attractions are the Museum of Modern Art, the Ethnographic Museum, the Art Pavilion, the Gallery of Old Masters (or the Strassmaier Gallery), the Mimara Museum, the Botanical Garden and the Croatian National Theatre.
