The most touristic and, without exaggeration, the most beautiful city in Colombia is, of course, Cartagena. It is here that cruise ships from all over the world dock to touch the amazing and heroic history of the city, which for several centuries has been keeping its defenses against pirates of the Caribbean Sea.

In the historic center of Cartagena you can walk for hours: on foot or on a carriage to inspect colonial buildings, each of which is a kind of work of art. UNESCO has fully inscribed the “city behind the wall” (ciudad amurallada), as old Cartagena is sometimes called, on the World Heritage List of Humanity.

Above Cartagena rises a hill, where from the XVI century stands the ancient Catholic monastery of Convento de La Popa. From here you can see the city from a bird's eye view and learn more about its religious history. Touch the same military events centuries ago, you can during a tour of the fortress of San Felipe - the main defense citadel of medieval Latin America.
