What to expect
Zion National Park is rightly proud of many of the most unusual geological formations. All of them are the result of thousands of years of winds and the Virginia River washing through a huge and bizarre canyon in the colored Navajo sandstones. The visiting card of Zion Park is the layered Checkerboard Mesa mountain: a towering block of sandstone, like a chessboard divided into even squares by water and wind.
