Excursion to the historical past of the United States, a trip to America, as it was 3 centuries ago.

First stop is Annapolis. English colonists began to explore the land in the XVII century and soon a small town, named Annapolis in honor of the heiress of the English throne Princess Anne, became the capital of Maryland. The thriving tobacco and slave trade grew rapidly and once was the capital of the United States for 9 months. After the Civil War, when slavery was finally abolished, the city fell into decline and never achieved its former greatness. Oddly enough, it is thanks to this that today we can see the city almost the same as it was in the XVIII century. Many shops and shops are still in the same places and sell the same goods as 300 years ago. The most important historical building in the city is the State House.

At the State House on January 14, 1784, the Treaty of Paris was ratified, by which England recognized the independence of its American colonies, and even earlier it was here, after eight years of service, crowned with fame, that the famed George Washington resigned from his duties as commander of the Continental Army and retired to the Mount Vernon estate. But this is not the only attraction of the city.

St. Anne’s Church is proud of the unique Tiffany stained glass windows that once adorned the US pavilion at the World’s Fair in Chicago. Built in the middle of the XIX century, the cathedral impresses with its architectural integrity and subtle understanding of historical reminiscences. Another amazing building of the same period - Bancroft Hall - the largest dormitory in the world, it is now home to four thousand cadets of the Naval Academy, for which it was built. The Academy Museum is proud of one of the richest collections of ship models in the world of the XVII - XIX centuries. Annapolis is also the oldest Capitol in the country, still in operation.

Next stop is Baltimore.The history of the largest city of Maryland goes back to the middle of the XVII century, when the English king granted the colony of Maryland to Drorge Calvert, First Lord of Baltimore. The hereditary title became the name of the largest city in the state today. Baltimore deserves special attention, there is no other city in America where the English past is so closely intertwined with dreams of independence.

The Royal Navy, thanks to the shipbuilders of Fells Point, was regularly replenished with new and beautiful ships. Among them is the famous frigate Constellation, which is now in an honorable parking lot in Inner Harbor. The names of streets in this part of the city still remind of London, there is even a “Thames Street”. In the middle of the XX century, according to the project of reconstruction of the port, the historical part was to be destroyed, but the locals defended their quarter and today it pleases us with restored and well-preserved streets with buildings of the XVIII and XIX centuries.

Nearby is Fort Mac Henry, a legendary place in U.S. history.During the so-called Second War of Independence, on 13 September 1814, British ships fired at the fort for 25 hours in a row, and 1,800 bombs and shells fell on the fort. The ship’s lawyer Francis Scott Key was so deeply moved by the sight of the star-striped flag flying over the fort that he wrote poems, the very same ones that we know today as the national anthem of the United States.

Baltimore has many interesting and memorable places, the entire history of the United States somehow passed through this city. But there are also some interesting places. The most elegant area of the city is Mount Vernon. You can spend more than one day here. The first monument to George Washington, the first in the United States higher musical educational institution - the Peabody Institute, the building of one of the world's best private collections of fine art - the Walters Museum and many more interesting sights
